Security Access Control and Protecting Your Business
When securing your location, there are a number of potential threats to consider. Most will come from thieves and criminals in the outside world, but some attention should also be paid to the potential for internal theft and pilfering. Using security access control as a part of your commercial security system can help prevent both threats from becoming a reality.
What Is Access Control?
You might find yourself wondering “What is access control?” Security access control can easily be defined as the monitoring of movement into, throughout and out of restricted areas and the prevention of unauthorized personnel gaining access to certain restricted areas of a property or business. Through the utilization of multiple different technological implements, a business owner can prevent the loss of assets or information through either a break-in, security breach or internal employee pilferage.
Access Control Technologies
There are a number of new and old technologies at play in security access control. These days a simple name badge is no longer the most effective method of protecting restricted areas and information or assets from prying eyes or unauthorized personnel. While name badges are still used, the use of items such as biometric readers and proximity cards makes for far more iron-clad security. Biometric readers, which use fingerprint scanning to verify identity, are very difficult to override or disable through deceitful practices. Proximity cards and readers, which can detect the presence of the card without any actual physical contact from the wearer or employee, are also cost-effective and efficient. Some other uses of cards in security access control include swipe cards and Common Access Cards (CAC). These security technologies, when implemented with CCTV surveillance and other security measures, will make for an impenetrable system of protection.
